3 Good Design Principles to Practice

Corporate or business websites present an online company headquarters that prospective clients and customers visit. Therefore, it makes sense to practice good design principles in your website creation or redesign to enable it not only to reach out to the optimum level of visitors but also to present content and information in such as way as to support the revenue and profit goals of the company. Consider the following good design principles:

Make your website load fast – Eliminate images that are not only unnecessary but also makes the web site load sluggishly. If the image is essential to the information being presented, optimize it with the use of any program designed for image editing so the file is reduced to the minimum size. Also avoid the use of scripting languages unless absolutely necessary. Use it only to manipulate or handle data and not to create optical effects. The use of heavy scripts not only results to delay in the upload of the website but also lead to crash in some browsers. In addition, not all browsers support scripts.

Make your website visually appealing – The right balance of images and information help drive home the point you are trying to present. Keep text paragraph lengths at reasonable lengths and if it should be very long, you may want to consider splitting it into separate articles or at least pages. The font size should also not be too small so that it strains the eyes of the visitors and not too big so that it leads to a wider page that annoys the reader. The navigation menu should be uncluttered and provide clear directions on how to navigate the site.

Make your website cross-browser compatible
– You’ll lose out if your website sports a great appearance on Internet Explorer but gets horribly disfigured in Opera or Firefox. Ensure that your website abides by the web standards found at www.w3.org. Styling your page using CSS also save you a lot of work as it renders all elements in the website in just one change.

Practicing good design principles benefits everyone, the customer, the designer, the webmaster and the business owner. It makes for so much with so little.
